Help Wanted
As Historic Route 20 enters a new year, we are looking for volunteers to help us with our organization. As many of you know, we are primarily a one man band right now with some help here and there. Our growth is limited by what can be accomplished by one person over 3,000 miles.
We are seeking the following volunteers – if you are interested, please leave comment or write to us,
State Executive Directors
Location – All 12 States of Route 20
The State Executive Director is responsible for carrying out the mission of the organization in their respected state. Duties include:
- Meeting with local tourism boards
- Social media posts
- Potential conference or speaking engagements
- Visiting local businesses and sites on Historic Route 20
- Promote and advocate for a Historic Route 20 designation
- Secure grants
While this position is volunteer, the person will have the ability to receive a stipend for travel and secure funds from speaking engagements and other events if funded.
Grant Writer
A successful organization relies on grants to operate and fulfill its mission. We are seeking a volunteer grant writer and seeker for various projects and applying for grants. If projects are funded, the grant writer may receive compensation.
Membership Coordinator
The membership coordinator will have the responsibility to reach out to past, current and potential new members across the Historic Route 20 corridor. This will include;
- Correspondence
- Emails
- Phone Calls
- Updating the membership listings
- Member services
Content Creators
Historic Route 20 has a prominent presence on social media with posts on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. We are seeking additional creators such as photography, story writers and article writers.
With the exception of the Executive Directors, all positions can be maintained from a home advantage. Monthly Zoom meetings will be required for some positions but all are welcome to join in.

Hello! My husband and I recently finished driving Route 20 in its entirety! Before we began, I did a lot of research to locate additional interesting stops along the route. Besides your website, I gathered information from the National Park website, a book on scenic drives in the U. S, and the Roadside America website (it shares information about odd and interesting things to see across the U.S.) . I compile a list of the stops we plan on making along the way then create a journal of all the places & what we saw.
Would you find it helpful to offer that information to people who contact you in the planning stages of their Route 20 journey? Our journal includes somewhere around 100 sites. 10 National Park Service, 52 from Roadside America and about 35 from the list you provide on your website. There are also a few that we came across along the way that are included as well. Each of the sites contains address or location information and a brief description. It is about 15-20 pages when printed.
I received an error while sending my last comment. Did you receive it?
Hello Pam,
I am interested in your research. I have not been able to obtain membership in the group and can’t get a reply to my requests.
My wife and I are interested in driving 20 from Toledo, Ohio to Toledo, Oregon and then on to the coast of course. What you have done would be a great help in planning our trip.
I’d be happy to pay you for a copy.
Sincerely,
Roger Heider

Having grown up driving beautiful rt. 20 across central New York State, visiting the famous “Pre-Historic Creatures Museum” as a kid, The Tee-Pee (still there), Sharon Springs (thriving still) and driving rt. 20 to/from Duanesburg to and through Albany before I-88 was built, I have longed to get back on it and just roll. My fellow performer/song writers feel the same And so…..
The Horseshoe Lounge Playboys are in the planning stage of celebrating the scenic beauty, the towns, people and businesses along Rt 20 by commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Historic Rt. 20’s designation (1925) as ‘”The Longest Highway in America.” Our plan is to take The Horseshoe Lounge Cavalcade on tour, perform our original “Small Town Americana” music and promote the people, businesses and towns along Historic Rt. 20. We plan to make our way coast to coast in our 1985 Blue Bird Bus. We are going to document the tour as we go via a blog(s) on reputable social media outlets with regular updates/highlights as well as capture much of the experience on video for episodes of a potential Docu-series tbd.
We could use suggestions and all the help we can get to arrange sites, towns, venues, partners/sponsors to highlight.
